Senior Staff Accountant – Mineral Ridge, OH
Salary $: Full Time (40 + hours per week); Competitive pay rate based on experience; includes comprehensive and generous benefits and leave package.
Shift: Dayshift, M-F primarily, but may include expanded hours based upon the organization needs of the Agency.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff and activities.
- Ensure that invoices are paid promptly by the AP Clerk and that proper expense accounts are used.
- Ensure that Receivables are posted promptly and accurately using the correct GL accounts.
- Coordinate preparation of 1099s by AP staff.
- Supervise quarterly petty cash counts by AP staff.
- Maintain that proper cash handling techniques are being used by other departments.
- Assume responsibility for pre/post grant award budgets and grant accounting to ensure compliance.
- Complete monthly grant spreadsheets required for invoicing to outside grant funders.
- Participate in Grant Proposal Writing including budgets and planning necessary for grant application.
- Assist in Pre-Award Grant Process to finalize grant acceptance.
- Correspond with outside grant coordinators and complete required trainings to remain in compliance with all grant standards.
- Work closely on a continuous basis with internal department heads to update them on the status of grant spending and the requirements of budget adjustments as needed.
- Assist Controller in completion of monthly/quarterly/yearly reports.
- Assist in monthly Income Statement preparation.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- Perform General ledger account analysis and expense allocation.
- Track and analyze progress against revenue and expense budgets.
- Participate in the annual budget preparation.
- Participate in all outside Audits.
- Maintain Financial Compliance for all COMPASS organizations including the HUD Properties
- Prepare required documentation for all audits both COMPASS audits and outside payer source audits.
- Respond timely to all requests for information from outside audit sources.
Qualifications:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting or related education is required.
- Minimum of four plus years of financial or accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector and Thorough understanding nonprofit accounting concepts, generally accepted accounting principles and grant accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Outlook and advanced Excel.

Must meet COMPASS automobile liability insurance carrier guidelines to be insurable under the COMPASS policy. Note: COMPASS clients should be transported using a COMPASS vehicle, if a COMPASS vehicle is not available then the staff member is responsible to verify that they maintain adequate coverage through their personal carrier. If a COMPASS vehicle is not available, then the staff member is responsible to verify that they maintain coverage through their personal carrier for business related travel, including the transporting of clients, and must provide proof of coverage to COMPASS prior to transporting any COMPASS clients.
