Controller – Mineral Ridge, OH
COMPASS is looking for a hands-on Financial Controller with experience managing financial systems and providing supervision
Salary $: Full Time (40 + hours per week); Competitive pay rate based on experience; includes comprehensive and generous benefits and leave package.
Shift: Dayshift, M-F primarily, but may include expanded hours based upon the organization needs of the Agency.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and execute agency administrative policy and procedures for all fiscal affairs; establish accounting practices for the agency; sign checks and other agency documents.
- Direct and supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff and activities
- Instruct staff on proper accounting procedures to ensure invoices are recorded and paid, and receivables are recorded and deposited, promptly and accurately using the correct general ledger accounts and generally accepted accounting principles
- Coordinate preparation of 1099s by AP staff
- Perform or instruct staff on proper periodic general and sub-ledger analysis and reconciliations
- Supervise quarterly petty cash counts by AP staff
- Maintain and instruct others on proper cash handling techniques
- Direct and supervise Billing Department staff and activities
- Provide Supervision and guidance to all billing staff
- Become familiar with all billing components such as submission of claims, denials, appeals process and deposit reconciliation
- Analyze, recommend and implement process changes to maximize reimbursement for all services rendered
- Establish performance guidelines and clear responsibility to all staff to include prior deposits and denied claims and expectations of resolution times
- Develop, monitor and coach staff, ensuring the development of employee through orientation, training and establishing objectives
- Build employee morale, motivates and fosters a team environment
- Direct and supervise Accounting Staff and Senior Staff Accountant in the pre/post grant award budgets and grant accounting to ensure compliance
- Provide Supervision and guidance to all billing staff
- Participate monthly grant spreadsheets required for invoicing to outside grant funders
- Participate in Grant Proposal Writing including budgets and planning necessary for grant application
- Assist in Pre-Award Grant Process to finalize grant acceptance
- Correspond with outside grant coordinators and complete required trainings to remain in compliance with all grant standards
- Work closely on a continuous basis with internal department heads to update them on the status of grant spending and the requirements of budget adjustments as needed
- Direct and supervise Guardianship Accounting Staff on proper accounting procedure to ensure compliance with Probate Court-related fiscal matters
- Serve as a back-up to guardianship accounting staff
- Prepare, direct, and/or execute full cycle accounting activities for all organizations / funds
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
- Perform general ledger account analysis and expense allocation
- Track and analyze progress against revenue and expense budgets
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/yearly financial statements
- Perform monthly/quarterly/yearly financial period close
- Collaborate with other managers and staff to develop annual budget(s)
- Work with Agency Officers and Program Directors to maximize financial performance of departments and assist with revenue generation activity throughout the Agency.
- Manage all financial audits
- Maintain financial compliance for all COMPASS organizations including three (3) HUD Properties
- Respond timely to all requests for information from outside auditors/sources
- Prepare required documentation timely and accurately for COMPASS and outside payer source audits
- Own and maintain completeness and accuracy of COMPASS financial system
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s in accounting or related education is required, MBA/CPA desired.
- Minimum of five years of management experience in accounting setting with progressive increase in responsibilities.
- Thorough understanding accounting concepts, generally accepted accounting principles and grant accounting.
- High level skill set in Microsoft Office Products and accounting software packages is required.
- Working knowledge of electronic medical records systems is preferred.

Miscellaneous requirements: Criminal background check, Pre-employment drug screen, and Clear driving record. Driving Agency vehicles and clients is not a requirement of the position but must maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain minimum State of Ohio drivers’ coverage insurance.
