Design Coordinator Facilities

JOB CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION LEVEL/POSITION: DESIGN COORDINATOR

 REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES, CONSTRUCTION, AND MAINTENANCE

 POSITION SUMMARY: This is responsible administrative work in the coordination of design and planning of all new construction, remodeling, and renovation projects. This employee coordinates with related staff within the Facilities Department. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of the assigned administrator. 

• Support activities designed to achieve priority goals identified through the District’s strategic plan. • Plan, prepare, and administer design related documents such as scopes of work and contract documents. • Coordinate the development of plans and specifications of all school system facilities projects. • Assist with the planning for projects, including site studies and sketches. • Assist in the selection and supervision of design professionals, contractors, and other specialists employed to perform facilities-related work for the District. • Administer performance of design contracts and coordinate and supervise the efforts of architects and consultants to ensure attainment of specified design quality standards. • Prepare and present written and oral project status reports as requested. • Ensure the qualities of workmanship and materials for all projects. Attend onsite Owners, Architects, and Contractors meetings as needed. • Ensure that payments to architects and consultants are for goods and/or services received. • Assist in the development and maintenance of the department’s master design criteria and master specifications. • Perform evaluations of architects and other consultants. • Coordinate facilities design plan reviews with District staff, the Building Official, the Building Code Compliance Office, and outside Authority Having Jurisdiction as needed, to ensure that all review comments are incorporated into the design documents. • Ensure that all construction, remodeling, and renovation activities are designed and built in accordance with the State Requirements for Educational Facilities (SREF) and other applicable local, state, national codes, rules, and regulations. • Assist in maintaining the District’s facilities inventory program, Florida Inventory of School Houses. ~An Equal Opportunity School District~ • Assist the department with the school plant survey process and records. • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: L-Light Work – Required to push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education – Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Building Construction, or related field from an accredited educational institution. Master’s degree preferred.

 Experience – Minimum three years of verifiable successful experience in a related field. 

Computer Skills – Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD or the equivalent of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Experience in data entry and Microsoft Suite. Certificates and/or License(s) – Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or obtain within 30 work days and the ability to drive. Must have certification in the State Requirements of Educational Facilities or be able to obtain certification within eleven months from the date of hire. Architecture license or CAD Drafting certification preferred.
