Job Description
Fox News is looking for a proactive Desk Assistant for our Assignment Desk team based in the DC Bureau. In this role, you'll support the Assignment Editor with essential tasks such as coordinating news coverage, managing crew movements, fielding phone calls, gathering information from agencies, and responding swiftly to breaking news events. This fast-paced position operates within a 24-hour news setting. Additional responsibilities include assisting our production team and editors to find and match appropriate video to live television scripts. We are looking for a curious individual who is hungry to learn, willing to ask questions, and works daily to strengthen their skillset.
The Desk Assistant position requires flexibility in scheduling, with the expectation that you will work a variety of non-traditional shifts including weekends, overnights, early morning hours, and holidays.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help in dispatching crews, tracking guest bookings, and managing crew locations
- Manage calls from internal and external sources to assist with information gathering
- Monitor news, contact appropriate authorities to verify breaking news information
- Collaborate with the Assignment Editor to follow up on developing news stories.
- Assist with logging DC-area news events with an emphasis on highlighting new developments
- Monitor wires, social media, and other broadcast networks for news developments
- Reach out to agencies, government departments, and FOX personnel to gather and confirm information
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
- Strong logistical and editorial abilities with an understanding of national and international politics
- Knowledgeable about the various DC government agencies
- Ability to initiate tasks independently as well as collaborate effectively with a team
- Capable of working in a dynamic environment, multitasking, prioritizing tasks daily, and handling breaking news situations
- Must be willing to work a variety of non-traditional shifts including weekends, overnights, early mornings, and holidays
