SCAPE is a landscape architecture and urban design practice headquartered in New York with offices in New Orleans and San Francisco. We design and advocate for the ecologically restorative and socially engaged landscapes, urban environments, and nature-based infrastructure of the future.
Our staff of over 80 individuals includes landscape architects, urban planners, architects, ecological designers, horticulturists, and community engagement professionals—and a deep bench of technical expertise related to construction, regulation, and agency review. Our team members in marketing, operations, finance, and administration are key collaborators in support of our design practice. We work across disciplines, collaborating with architects, developers, engineers, foundations, agencies, institutions, and grassroots environmental justice and community groups on projects across scales.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marketing Coordinator is a critical role within the Marketing & Communications Team at SCAPE. We are seeking a candidate with a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a marketing and/or communications team in the design field. This candidate is highly organized; has a working familiarity of website CMS software and social media platforms; brings strong writing skills with the ability to translate key design themes into narrative content, with an exacting eye for detail; possesses excellent skills in Adobe InDesign (and Photoshop a plus); has a working familiarity of the RFP/Q response process;; and thrives in a collaborative team environment, bringing a self-motivated, problem-solving attitude.
The Marketing & Communications Team currently consists of a Senior Marketing Manager, Senior Business Development Manager, Communications Manager, and a Marketing Coordinator—collectively overseen by the Managing Principal. This role will support both the marketing and communications efforts of the practice – roughly 50% of the time on strategic communications projects and 50% of the time on supporting marketing projects.
LOCATION
This role is based in either our New York or our New Orleans studio. The role is in-person with some flexibility to work from home in alignment with company policy.
COMPENSATION
The salary range is $50,000-$70,000 and commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, salaried position with medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and transit benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marketing Coordinator will contribute at all levels marketing and communications for the practice. A non-exhaustive list of examples includes:
- Website management; website content creation and website administration support;
- Development of press materials and responding to media requests;
- Digital media creation for social media – written and visual in nature;
- Reviewing RFP/Q briefs and drafting summaries;
- Creating proposal documents and interview decks in InDesign;
- Crafting marketing materials such as project cutsheets, resumes, and portfolio spreads in InDesign;
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
A successful candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher;
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a marketing and/or communications team in the design field or a related discipline;
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)—specifically the formatting of print/digital materials, with an eye for graphic design;
- Experience leading digital media content creation, including the production of compelling website and social media content (i.e., WordPress, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook);
- Familiarity with press and media practices, including press releases, publication calendars, and relationship building with editors and beat reporters;
- Excellent writing skills, with a strong attention to detail and understanding of audience and context;
- General knowledge and interest in the design field, including landscape architecture, urban planning/design, architecture, engineering, and related disciplines (i.e., real estate and economic development);
- Excellent organizational and time management skills—especially the ability to balance near-term (“high tide”) tasks requiring action with longer-term (“low tide”) initiatives requiring consistent follow-up;
- Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to “manage up” and facilitate a streamlined review process amid busy schedules.
