Content & Social Media Specialist

The Content & Social Media Specialist will support the Communications and Marketing team by creating engaging content across various platforms and for multiple target audiences. This position will primarily focus on storytelling through blog and social media management. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, be detail-oriented, organized and capable of managing multiple projects and tasks. This role requires creativity, strong writing skills and the ability to adapt to evolving trends while working on a wide range of projects, campaigns and initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Works with Communications and Marketing team to enhance the DSM USA voice and presence through multiple channels.
    • Proactively identifies and develops storytelling opportunities across platforms to highlight the Greater Des Moines (DSM) region and Partnership Investors and Members, ensuring content is relevant, engaging and aligns with broader communication strategies.
    • Manages The Partnership's blogs, generating ideas and writing copy as needed.
    • Manages social media strategy and generates content for The Partnership's social media channels.
    • Collaborates with team members across areas of work to generate and execute storytelling ideas.
    • Supports the implementation of PR and marketing strategies and plans.
    • Supports in the creation of Partnership news releases, newsletters, web copy and social media content as needed.
  • Tracks analytics for Partnership blogs and social media channels to measure success and identify opportunities. Keeps up-to-date on best practices for writing effective web and social media content.
  • Supports the Communications and Marketing team in maintaining organizational brand standards and a consistent style by proofreading and editing as needed. Ensure projects are reviewed and approved by Communications and Marketing team members and individuals involved before finalization.
  • Serves as a role model within the organization and a positive representative of The Partnership in the community.
  • Conducts oneself in a manner consistent with organization values, goals and objectives.
  • All other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and complete multiple projects in stressful situations, capacity to work independently and demonstrate initiative and experience in interacting with business community.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and platform management systems.
  • Knowledge of CMS and/or general website knowledge desired but not required (web CMS training will be provided.)
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn and a keen eye for creative ideas, processes/efficiency strongly desired, as well as an ability to be adaptable to quickly evolving projects.

Education and Experience:

  • One-to-three years of experience in public relations, marketing, communications, writing or other related areas.
  • Previous public relations, marketing and writing experience a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Basic/high level understanding of marketing and communications projects desired, but not required.
  • Ideal candidate is creative, process-oriented and ready to learn.
