This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. For more information on the , please visit https://danr.sd.gov/.

This position is responsible for recruiting, scheduling, coordinating, and preparing for non-livestock events held on the SD State Fairgrounds. This position will maintain and supervise event schedules and coordinate event requirements with State Fair staff and local government entities. Additionally, the person selected for this position will help promote non-livestock events and attract new events to the State Fairgrounds.

Responsibilities may include:

  • designing and developing bids/proposals to attract new events to the State Fairgrounds;
  • attending events and supporting promotors in the supervision of the events;
  • assisting in the development of promotional materials;
  • assisting with development, negotiation, and enforcement of contract terms with promoters;
  • maintaining an event database and calendar of events;
  • contract administration and tracking;
  • coordinating support services for events at the SD State Fair Park;
  • coordinating maintenance of buildings and grounds during events and related maintenance procedures;
  • ensuring proper fees, insurance, and deposits are collected;
  • reports, records, and verifies costs associated with an event.

This position works primarily in a traditional office setting, but may work outdoors on the State Fairgrounds, sometimes in extreme heat or inclement weather, for extended periods of time primarily prior to and during the State Fair and special events. General hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with some weekends and evening hours. Prior to and during the annual State Fair, position requires working extended hours and being on call, while working continuous days without a day off.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must have valid driver's license.

  • prepare and maintain accurate financial records and reports;

  • set up chairs, tables, and equipment, and perform light maintenance duties;
  • work some nights and weekends during special events;
  • walk or stand continuously during events;
  • requires sufficient physical capacity to service indoor and outdoor events and activities, including lifting 35 pounds.
