Position Title: Pathways Intern
Department: Family Programs
Status: Part-time
Classification: Non-exempt
Primary Shift: 2pm-7pm, Flexible hours required. Some weekend hours occasionally required.
Reports to: Pathways Manager
Revision Date: 10/22/2024
Duration and compensation: The in-person internship will run for 12 weeks, from January to May. Start and end dates are flexible with the student’s schedule. Seeking candidates available to work Monday through Thursday from 2p to 7p for up to 15 hours per week. Intern will be compensated $15/hour.

Summary of Function
Neighborhood House is a community center based in West Louisville, supporting members from the twinkle to the wrinkle for over 125 years. We are seeking an intern to support our Pathways program, which aims to help young adults 16-24 thrive as they transition from high school. The role will include, but is not limited to, graphic design, community outreach, event planning, workshop facilitation, and collaboration across departments and with other youth-serving organizations.
Agency Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of Neighborhood House and embraces our values of equity, accountability, belonging, relationships, courage and joy.
- Provides leadership and positive interaction with others as evidenced by professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
- Exhibits effective communication skills internally and externally including proper use of agency communication systems.
- Exhibits sound stewardship by effectively managing financial resources, information resources, and physical resources to achieve the objectives of Neighborhood House.
- Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
Description of Essential Functions
- Maintaining a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other recruiting opportunities.
- Be very visible in the community and meet youth where they are from basketball courts to front porches.
- Work with individuals on their journey toward independence and inclusion
- Actively demonstrates enthusiasm for accomplishing Neighborhood House program goals, assisting in program development, and objectively reviewing the program for possible improvements.
- Create flyers for upcoming events
- Co-plan and co-facilitate programming for young adults 16-24
- Support with marketing and recruitment of Pathways members
- Assist with community events/community outreach, including planning and execution of the event
- Other duties as assigned by the Pathways Manager
- Maintains building security and upholds member confidentiality as applicable.
- Participates in meetings and trainings as assigned.
Education and experience requirements:
- Intern must have experience collaborating/working with diverse, marginalized people.
- Intern must have an interest in the nonprofit sector and providing equitable access to resources.
- Intern must be creative, resourceful, and community-oriented.
- Computer skills in Canva, Google Worksuite, and social media are strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in community outreach preferred
- Candidates working/living in West Louisville strongly encouraged to apply
- Candidates with a Pan African studies, women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, or urban studies background are strongly encouraged to apply
