Guardianship Compliance Auditor
Under direct supervision of the Inspector General, the primary duties of this position is to assist in the planning and conducting of guardianship compliance audits to enhance the Probate Court’s oversight process in the protection of ward’s assets pursuant to Chapter 744, Florida Statutes, related to guardianship reports and activities. This includes being responsible for the initial review and appraising of guardianship annual accountings filed with the Court, and assigned to the Division of Inspector General to audit, to ensure compliance with all applicable Statutes, Rules of Court Administrative Orders and other judicial directives. Formulate conclusions and communicate matters of non-compliance, and other insufficiencies and discrepancies to the Court through concise written documentation and provide additional data as needed. In addition, assist the Inspector General in reviewing non-guardianship draft audit reports and other Division documents and communications. This position is distinguished from others in this classification by the level of experience, education, and training required as well as the complexity of work performed. This position has a probationary period of not less than three (3) months.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Under direct supervision, analyzes records and inputs data into spreadsheet application for audit documentation and monitoring purposes.
- Formulates conclusions and reports findings that will be provided to the court for review and further instructions.
- Researches Florida Statutes, Rules of Court, Administrative orders, and memoranda related court records and other reference material to support and document written findings presented to the court for review.
- Examines and identifies possible actions to be taken on motions, requests, petitions, certificates, complaints, and other legal documents pursuant to Clerk’s statutory responsibilities.
- Assists in performing the initial review and proofreading of non-guardianship audit reports and other Division documents, including updating and maintaining office policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience in auditing.
- A basic level proficiency using Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
- Valid Florida Driver license.
An equivalent combination of education and/or work experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of auditing and accounting practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Florida Statutes and Florida Probate Rules and departmental rules and regulations pertaining to probate related work.
- Knowledge of The IIA’s International Professional Practice Framework.
- Skill in interpersonal communication of an advanced level.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
- Skill in operation of computer software and hardware sufficient to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data.
- Ability to objectively and independently conducts audits and develop recommendations regarding guardianship accountings.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and analysis.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, judges, attorneys, and the general public.
- Ability to research legal resources material when analyzing guardianship records to meet judicial compliance requirements.
- Ability to gather factual evidence to ensure findings are adequately supported and documented when reporting to the court.
- Ability to use sound judgement when communicating findings to other employees, members of the public and legal community.
- Ability to work with confidential and/or sensitive data while complying with state and federal guidelines and legal advice restrictions for the Clerk & Comptroller’s office.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
- Ability to fluently read, interpret, speak, write, and understand the English Language.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
VISUAL ACUITY:
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, at distances close to the eyes, such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
