Assistant Teacher
Play and Prep Preschool offers traditional preschool classes with an outdoor component for students that are 2-5 years old. We use our outdoor learning areas everyday from September-May. The staff must have the ability to build relationships with families and coworkers and create a dynamic environment where play and learning happens. They must also have the ability to multitask and manage multiple situations effectively.
The Assistant Teacher responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Help escort students to and from the building and/or outdoor classroom area
- Be available to escort children to the bathroom throughout the scheduled class time
- Be comfortable working outside
- Be responsible for the health, safety, and the welfare of all children. This includes helping children to stay warm and dry in inclement weather, managing risk in an outdoor setting, and addressing student conflicts
- Be generally aware of special projects like painting that may require additional hands
- Assist with centers and transitions including dressing and undressing for the outdoor
- Wipe down tables at clean-up time before snack and then again after snack
- Cleaning up classroom at end of day including supplies
- Be ready to take a teacher position during lead teacher absence or if needed to step out
- maintain professional development and health courses as required by ODJFS and Play and Prep Preschool
