Insights & Innovation Intern- Avon, OH

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Insights & Innovation Intern will gain experience with both the Market Research (Insights) and Product Management (Innovation) aspects of Marketing. The I&I Team is a unique department within Shurtape that identifies and addresses unmet customer needs, brings new products to market, stays ahead of competitors​ and continuously improves products and processes that create new claims.

 

Dates- 5/27/25-8/7/25

Hybrid Schedule- Tues/Weds/Thurs in office

 

 

Responsibilities

Research (Insights)

The I&I intern will spend approximately 50% of time working on Insights projects to support the business. These projects will uncover both consumer and industrial end-user insights that will serve as a basis for decision making across our broad marketing departments, as they develop products, plan product launches, communicate key features and generally gain an overall understanding of the end users and their interactions with our product categories. Job responsibilities will include a variety of primary and secondary research activities.

  • Assist with primary market research activities, including organizing samples for research, writing research questions and programming surveys
  • Summarize and analyze data; make recommendations related to research findings
  • Report findings, complete with graphs illustrating data and written text explaining complex findings
  • Conduct secondary research and compile data related to current product market, customer demographics and interest, and factors influencing product demand
  • Present and explain findings and implications to the various teams within the business
  • Attend assigned research-oriented Webinars or in-person conferences

 

Product Management (Innovation)

The I&I Intern will spend approximately 50% of time working on Innovation product management projects. This will offer the intern a great opportunity to experience many of the facets of managing new and established products. The intern can look forward to helping create and implement marketing strategies for specific products or product lines. Gain practical experience by potentially assisting Product Managers:

  • Creating marketing materials such as brochures, sales sheets, online banners, etc.
  • Monitoring competitor activity and industry trends
  • Working through financial models
  • Identifying opportunities for product promotions and marketing campaigns
  • Coordinating with sales teams on campaign execution
  • Researching target markets to identify their needs and preferences
  • Researching competition
  • Monitoring performance of advertising campaigns and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Writing blog posts or other content that promotes the company’s products or services to potential customers

The I&I intern will spend approximately 80% of their time (4 days/wk) working on Insights projects to support the business. These projects will uncover both consumer and industrial end-user insights that will serve as a basis for decision making across our broad marketing departments, as they support existing and developing products, plan product launches, communicate key features and generally gain an overall understanding of the end users and their interactions with our product categories. Job responsibilities will include a variety of primary and secondary research activities.

  • Assist with primary market research activities, including organizing samples for research, writing research questions and programming surveys
  • Summarize and analyze data; make recommendations related to research findings
  • Report findings, complete with graphs illustrating data and written text explaining complex findings
  • Conduct secondary research and compile data related to current product market, customer demographics and interest, and factors influencing product demand
  • Leverage AI-powered search engines and research platforms, including Bloomfire, Ascribe, and incaAI, to meet research needs and support Innovation
  • Present and explain findings and implications to the various teams within the business
  • Attend assigned research-oriented Webinars or in-person conferences

 

Product Management (Innovation)

The I&I Intern will spend approximately 20% of their time (1 day/wk) working on Innovation product management projects. This will offer the intern a great opportunity to experience many of the facets of managing new and established products. The intern can look forward to helping create and implement marketing strategies for specific products or product lines. Gain practical experience by potentially assisting Product Managers:

  • Creating marketing materials such as brochures, sales sheets, online banners, etc.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education – Marketing, Market Research, Entrepreneurship, Business or Engineering preferred
  • Skills – Communication, Analytical skills, Creativity, Teamwork, Initiative
  • Abilities – Basic Computer Skills (including MSOffice – Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Survey Software experience a plus)
  • Experience – With survey tools or prior survey writing a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires the ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.
