The primary reporting location is the Leland Stanford Mansion at 800 N Street, Sacramento CA. Under the direction of the Museum Curator III, the Park Interpretive Specialist aids in the development of the design and interpretive content for exhibit programs, and digital media including the State Capitol Museum website. Duties include research, writing, and photographic and video documentation. Will assist with exhibits and collections including collections transportation and exhibit installation as needed. Will work independently and as a member of a larger team to meet deadlines and ensure the timely completion of projects.

This position will work four (4) days/week between Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend or evening hour assignments may be scheduled.
 

This position may work up to 1500 hours per year/in a 12 consecutive month period.

Duties: 

  • Assists the Exhibit Designer and Graphic Designer III by performing in-depth research on themes related to California History, California Politics, the California State Capitol, and Capital District Park units.
  • Utilize research to ensure professional and accurate text, labels, and items for exhibits and other print and digital media such as the State Capitol Museum website.
  • Access resources such as the State Museum Resource Center, State Library, State Archives, and other sources as needed including the State Parks’ content management database The Museum System (TMS).

Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to graduation from college (1) with major work in natural sciences or human history

OR 

  • Major work in education with specialization in natural science or human history. Full-time paid work performing duties similar to those listed under "TYPICAL TASKS" above may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required education on the basis of one season (three months) of experience being equal to one year of education.
