Licensed Veterinary Technician

Harrisonburg Animal Hospital is looking to add a new member to our team! We are seeking someone to fill a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician position in our fast-paced practice! We are a four-doctor hospital serving Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and beyond. Staff at HAH work in a positive and supportive environment, where personal and professional development are a part of the culture. LVTs work in concert with our Veterinarians to perform surgery, dentistry, and general medical care to our patients.

Generally, duties include:

  • Assist doctors, to include restraining and stabilizing patient during examinations and treatment; using medical equipment properly; cleaning and organizing examination rooms; prepping patients for surgery; administering treatments and injections per doctor’s instructions or treatment form.
  • Perform routine lab procedures and analysis in hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology; prepare samples for outside lab analysis.
  • Induce anesthesia and intubate patients; monitor patients under anesthesia.
  • Take patient vital signs, to include temperature, pulse and respiration. Take and develop radiographs. Perform catheterization, both urinary and venous.
  • Fill prescriptions, to include administering rabies vaccines. Maintain pharmacy records, and controlled drug, anesthesia, fecal, and heartworm test logs. Maintain patient charts.
  • Perform dental cleanings.
  • Perform anal gland expressions and nail trims.
  • Provide basic education to clients regarding the patient’s condition and care, nutrition and medical conditions. Explain to clients how to administer medicines at home. Recommend products for optimal wellness, to include dietary products, vitamins and supplements, dental cleaning, flea control, and geriatric care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
