Public Affairs Specialist

A position as a Public Affairs Specialist with the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) might be a great fit for you! 

 

NRCS is seeking recently graduated or graduating individuals with a passion for the environment and commitment to action through public service to join our Pathways Recent Graduate Program. As a Public Affairs Specialist with NRCS, your duties and responsibilities will include: 

  • Assisting with information, awareness, outreach, and strategic communication and marketing programs across assigned area to communicate NRCS policies, programs, services, and activities. 
  • Assisting with the planning, design, and preparation of effective exhibits, posters, and visual material for display. Assisting with outreach material development, including fact sheets, postcards, flyers, mailers, and other visual materials for identified target audiences. 
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with other federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private organizations in conservation efforts across private lands. 
  • Supporting projects led by senior staff requiring cross-team interaction within the organization. 
  • Utilizing traditional and non-traditional means to inform current and potential customers about programs, technical assistance, and conservation accomplishments. 

 

Pathways candidates will receive on-the-job training and exposure to a variety of functional areas within communications, public affairs, and related natural resource conservation programs. As training advances and proficiency is demonstrated, work assignments will become increasingly challenging in order to provide formal experience in the principles, concepts, work processes, and regulations of assigned programs. All assignments are developmental in nature and designed to provide candidates with the necessary competencies to prepare them for conversion to a permanent position within the agency following completion of Pathways requirements.
