ABOUT THE ROLE

Our employees are among the organization’s most valuable assets and resources.  We share compassion for leveling the playing field for all.  Our mission makes AIDB a unique place to work and we invite you to be a part of the miracles that happen every day.  The Senior Director of Development will report to the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and assist in the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive fundraising program, including, but not limited to, the coordination and oversight of the annual giving program, direct mail, electronic fundraising, donor cultivation visits, proposals and solicitations, private grants, events and goals to be met. 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marking, communication, public relations, social services or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful professional experience in direct education fundraising or non-profit fundraising.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with grant writing and oversight of grants.
  • Strong writing, speaking and human relations skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, within a team environment and with a wide range of people and groups; self-starter.
  • Ability to provide direction and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism and high achievement.
  • Proficient use of computer technology related to work processing, data management and research, social media and e-marketing and publishing/design.  Knowledge of Donor Perfect software a plus; prospect research a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in marketing, communication, public relations or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with sensory impairments.
  • Seven (7) years or more of direct fundraising and grant writing experience

POSITION REQUIRMENTS

  • In collaboration with Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and Community Relations, set annual fundraising goals and priorities.
  • Manage a prospect pool of potential major donors with annual goals for personal visits and giving outcomes.
  • Design and deliver direct mail appeals targeting introductory gifts, annual gifts, pledges, recurring gifts, and re-activation gifts.
  • Develop “friend raising” events that provide fiscal growth and engagement of new/current donors.  Events must be mission relevant, donor educational and cost effective.
  • Communicate to Executive Director and Board, metrics for monitoring retention, new donor acquisition and average gift value.
  • Cultivate and steward donors through in-person visits, personalized correspondence, special events and timely acknowledgments.
  • Provide assistance and work with the Annual Giving and Events Coordinator to provide metric for successful growth in areas of annual fund and employee campaigns as well as fundraising events.
  • Work with Director of Development in Decatur to establish campaign and fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Provide guidance and work closely with the Database and Prospect Relations Specialist to ensure database is managed and sustained accurately.
  • Development & Public Relations—Collaborate with Executive Director on donor communications, including annual appeal, annual report, newsletters, and donor impact reports.
  • Coordinate the preparation and writing of proposals for philanthropic grants
  • Research  private grant opportunities and possible other funding sources.
  • Prepare follow-up and project reports for submission to grantor/donor.
  • Work with AIDB advancement staff, faculty and other personnel in development of grants (excluding state and federal) and proposals.
  • Review proposals for consistency and accuracy before final submission.
  • Prepare regular reports on the status of non-governmental  grant applications.
  • Interface with other areas of AIDB in developing priorities and funding opportunities.
  • Participate in community relations efforts; present or coordinate programs to nurture relationships with service or civic organizations.
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop project and program ideas in conjunction with staff and potential funding source.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage projects and deadlines.
  • Participate in and complete other duties assigned.
  • Must obtain with the first thirty-six (36) months of employment a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system.  Training is provided.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at any agency designated and paid by AIDB

SALARY: $75,000 - $100,000 Scale A1 Rank 04 

                              (260 days)

Direct deposit is required.

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
