Legal Intern

The Innocent Convicts (TIC) is committed to identifying malfunctions in the criminal legal system, particularly those leading to wrongful detention and imprisonment. With numerous post-conviction case review requests each week, we are offering law students, and recent graduates the opportunity to contribute to meaningful law-related work.

Intern responsibilities will include reviewing and summarizing trial transcripts and evidence, reexamining case documents, identifying investigative flaws, and participating in post-conviction strategy sessions. Legal research, writing, and fact-finding will also be key components of this internship, providing valuable support to our mission of addressing wrongful convictions.

We seek law students with strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for criminal legal reform. Interns must be proficient in legal software or willing to learn and able to work independently while collaborating with our team. Excellent communication skills are essential, as interns will engage with professionals and, at times, clients who are dealing with the impact of wrongful incarceration.

This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience with court documents, post-conviction processes, and legal strategies to address wrongful convictions. Students will also develop professionally by working closely with legal professionals and gaining insights into criminal legal reform. Supervision will include biweekly video check-ins for status updates, with feedback provided throughout each assignment. Interns may also earn academic credit depending on their law school’s policies.
