Boston Congressional Internship | U.S. Senator Ed Markey's Office

BOSTON CONGRESIONAL INTERNSHIP

Interns play an integral role in our office operations and contribute greatly to the Senator’s work on behalf of the Commonwealth and constituents. Our goal is to provide all interns with a meaningful professional experience that will enhance their understanding of government and public service.

Senator Markey’s Boston Office is currently accepting applications for the spring 2025 internship program.  Applications are due by Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11:59PM EST.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Preference is given to applicants that apply early.

Spring session: Jan 15, 2025, to May 9, 2025

Qualifications: Our internship program is geared towards current undergraduate, recent undergraduate, graduate, and associate’s degree. Ideal applicants are highly motivated individuals who possess strong writing, research and interpersonal skills, and are adaptable to new or fluid environments. Background in political science, international relations, environmental studies, liberal arts, and communications are desirable, but students of all fields of study are welcome to apply.

Candidates from BIPOC, LGBT+, working class, and/or other underrepresented communities with Massachusetts ties are strongly encouraged to apply.

Commitment & Credit: Internship opportunities are available on a full-time or part-time basis. School credit is possible for all internships if arranged and approved by the intern’s respective college or university. Candidates may also apply for stipends, additional details listed below.

Interns are able to work on either a part-time or a full-time basis. Spring requirement 10 hour minimum per week.

This is an in person on-site opportunity, no remote or hybrid capabilities are afforded to interns at any point during your internship. 

Intern Responsibilities Include:

Corresponding with and serving Massachusetts constituents who bring their concerns to the Senator’s office.

Front desk operations, including fielding constituent calls, logging opinions for the Senator, and directing casework calls to in-office staff.

Assisting with casework, communicating with federal agencies regarding issues facing constituents and the Commonwealth at large.

Collaborating with office staff and fellow interns in designated pods that specialize in distinct areas of Constituent Services.

Sorting mail sent to the office from constituents, ranging from scheduling requests, opinion and advocacy mail, and casework.

Drafting and writing inquiries, letters of support, greetings, and congratulatory citations.

Assisting with event planning and visits by the Senator throughout the Commonwealth.

 

Stipends:

Stipends are available to students who could not otherwise afford to live or work in Massachusetts. Interns will receive a stipend at the pre-tax rate of $15 an hour.
