Stepping Stones is an award-winning nonprofit organization that has supported individuals with disabilities since 1963 on the pathway to independence! Our unique Step Up Alternative Education program was the first of its kind in the region, partnering with local school districts to provide alternative education for students with sever autism and other behavioral challenges that have inhibited their ability to succeed academically in a traditional school environment.
This moderate-to-severe licensed Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing education to students to support their individual goals as well as train and manage a team of Educational Aides.
Prepare lesson plans following the Ohio Extended State Standards while maintaining classroom organization and structure. Provide intervention as needed to meet student's behavioral and social-emotional needs. Work with students as well as their IEP teams and parents to provide a positive learning experience and regularly report on each student's progress.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate professionally and effectively with school districts, related service providers, educational aides and parents.
- Plan meaningful and age-appropriate lessons that meet student IEP goals and are aligned with the Ohio Extended Learning Standards.
- Involve parents and home school to the degree necessary to provide quality programming for each student.
- Assist School Psychologist with the development of an ETR.
- Administer Ohio Alternative Assessment as needed.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of all documents and personal information. Develop Individual Education Plans, Behavioral Plans, and Functional Behavior Assessments.
- Progress monitoring and reporting on student IEP goals and objectives monthly.
- Demonstrate a collaborative relationship with educational aides through modeling and corrective feedback.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure completion of all documentation for each student, including those records required by home school district.
- Maintain and keep current all professional licensing and related certifications. Provide continuous staff feedback, discipline, and coaching to ensure Educational Aides are working at the highest level possible.
- Provide behavior prevention and intervention as needed.
- Maintain classroom supplies and materials at an appropriate level.
- Fill in as needed for Educational Aides.
- Provide training to newly hired Educational Aides.
- Carry out other instructions which are consistent with the general responsibilities with the position.
- Other items as assigned by the Education Service Director.
DELIVERABLES:
- Complete IEP’s for all students by deadline assigned.
- Complete progress reports for students monthly.
- Conduct alternative assessments on all assigned students.
- Complete initial and yearly evaluations on educational aides.
- Complete Crisis Plans, FBA, BIPS for new students and update for current students as determined necessary.
- Complete frequent program monitoring of students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related subject.
- Current K-12 Ohio Intervention Specialist License.
- Excellent attention to detail, and strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to work closely with aides, volunteers, and other support staff.
- Trained in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or willing to be trained.
COMPENSATION: Salaried position starting at $50,000 and is commiserate with experience annually.
