Air Resources Supervisor I

The Transportation Fuels Branch (TFB) in the Industrial Strategies Division (ISD) is seeking a first line supervisor, Air Resources Supervisor I (ARS I) for the Fuels Project Evaluation Section (FPES). The ARS I will lead a group of technical staff implementing portions of California's Low Carbon Fuels (LCFS) program which incentivizes the production and use of alternative fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. FPES staff evaluate the carbon content of fuels and process applications for projects that reduce the carbon intensity of fuels through investments in production facilities and their supply chains, use of hydrogen and other innovative approaches as allowed by the LCFS Regulation.

The ARS I manages the operations of this section, assigns and supports staff in the completion of their work to evaluate project applications and work with program stakeholders. The ARS I coordinates section work with the other sections in TFB and other branches in ISD, represents the program in communications with external stakeholders and other managers/staff within the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The ARS I is responsible for hiring staff, managing staff and contract resources, identifying projects, assigning work and setting appropriate deadlines, reinforcing personnel policies, reviewing deliverables for policy and scientific accuracy, resolving sensitive program and personnel issues with tact and diplomacy, and working closely with the Branch Chief, division leadership and other managers to develop and implement Branch and Division priorities and policies.

Working Conditions

 

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required. 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense.

  • Position located in a high-rise building.
  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)  
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • May travel up to 25% per month.
