Laboratory Assistant or Research Tech I (Sette Lab)

We are seeking a full-time Lab Assistant or Research Technician I to join the Sette lab at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology. As part of the Center for Vaccine Innovation, the Sette lab works on a variety of high-impact scientific projects in immune responses to infection and vaccines. We are looking for someone to help and support our research, paving the way to improve our understanding of how the human body can prevent or fight infection by developing outstanding immunity. Responsibilities:

Under the supervision the lab manager, the lab assistant or research technician will assist in preparing buffers, solutions, and routine lab chemicals. Laboratory administrative duties will include maintaining a research database, data entry into spreadsheets, and ordering/receiving supplies. You will also be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining laboratory equipment. Excellent organization and keeping accurate and meticulous records of all reagents in freezers, refrigerators, and liquid nitrogen tanks are critical to this position. You will be trained to isolate PBMCs from whole blood and a variety of cell culture techniques.

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • Previous laboratory experience in cell biology or immunology laboratory.
  • Proficient usage of Excel, Word and Power point.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization.

 

Minimum qualifications:

 

  • B.A./B.S.
  • Experience using basic laboratory equipment
  • Accurate record keeping and organizational skills
  • Oral and written communication skills necessary for teamwork
  • Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Desire to continually improve/develop new skills and learn from your teammates

 

Special Conditions:

 

  • Must be willing to work with human blood
  • Must be willing to work with recombinant DNA, biohazardous, and radioactive materials.
