Description

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is adding a new Philanthropic Advisor to our outstanding team! The Philanthropic Advisor will be a core member of the fundraising team at the Wisconsin Humane Society, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving over 40,000 animals annually from six operating locations with a budget of approximately $10 million. The Philanthropic Advisor is responsible for implementing fund development initiatives and activities related to major giving and planned giving, with primary focus on WHS’ Southern Campuses existing in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha Counties. This is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work remotely or at an onsite workspace within the WHS Summit Place office in West Allis.  Apply today!

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Personally cultivate strong relationships to inspire potential high-impact donors, with primary focus on Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha areas. 
• Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for, solicit, and steward an assigned portfolio of approximately 150 individual donors capable of giving $1,000 or more.
• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential planned giving relationships and capital campaign prospects.
• Manage personal donor relations data entry, gift forecasting, and prospect research.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Develop, implement, and share effective approaches to fundraising for WHS, ensuring the profitability of revenue-generating fundraising activities according to budget and organizational philosophy and guidelines.
• Provide administrative support on estate gift processing, donor research and prospecting, and additional development-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

The Philanthropic Advisor will be a positive, professional, and team-oriented individual with the following experience and attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; CFRE desirable.
• At least 5 years progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising. Successful sales experience considered.
• Approaches donor work with confidence and patient persistence.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
• Capable of handling high-pressure situations professionally in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient computer skills. Prior experience with MS Word and MS Excel is required. 
• Raiser’s Edge, or comparable donor database, experience is preferred.
• Prior knowledge of various giving vehicles including stock/securities, donor advised funds, QCDs desirable.
• Capable of accepting and completing work assignments with minimal supervision in a highly motivated manner.
• Ability to attend occasional evening and weekend donor activities and special events.
• Commitment to making a difference for animals and the people who love them.
