Job Summary and Qualifications
The Performance Improvement Executive Residency program incorporates hospital, division and enterprise wide financial and operations management to facilitate a holistic and broad view across the enterprise through job rotation/shadowing, didactic and experimental learnings. Over the course of the Executive Residency the Resident will become knowledgeable of key metrics, data tools, performance drivers, key stakeholders, and learn to implement best practices across facility and regional levels. This role blends engineering management and process improvement over the key hospital and division wide areas/service lines below:
· Labor Management
· Emergency Room Operations
· Surgical Services/Operating Rooms
· Patient Throughput and Bed Management
The Executive Resident position is a developmental role that will be focused on educating and preparing high potential individuals for future roles within the organization.The Residency generally lasts for one year in duration, but can be modified based on the needs of the Division/Enterprise.It is the expectation that as Residents excel, they will have opportunities to pursue roles within the Performance Improvement Organization that may not be in the geographic location where the Resident is initially placed. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to be geographically flexible after their initial residency placement.
DUTIES include but are not limited to:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of Performance Improvement organizational structure, operation, and objectives through various means including:
- Residents should focus their initial time in the program shadowing and rotating through the various service lines and operational areas Performance Improvement oversees
- Division VP of Performance Improvement should assist the Resident in identifying appropriate stakeholders and areas to shadow
- Attending and participating in departmental, administrative, and executive level meetings as invited by appropriate division and hospital leaders
- Conducting and participating in various projects to gain direct experience in specific operational areas
- Learn and develop mastery of data tools including but not limited to the following:
- PLUS, Benchmark, QlikView, Power BI CLM tool, LASR Facility Scheduler, Time Watch, FPC, and other Labor dashboards and reports
- Surgical Services Power BI Dashboard
- ER Power BI Dashboard, TrackER, MicroStrategy
- NATE Capacity Tool, Case Management and Acute Care Dashboards, Division Occupancy Dashboard
- Continuously monitor division and hospital performance using recognized tools and software
- Scheduled routine 1:1 meetings with preceptor
- Oversee hospital and division level project work as assigned by leadership team
- Assist with identifying improvement opportunities and recommendation of solutions to the appropriate facility and division individuals
- Function as a consultant for hospital leadership teams as needs and opportunities for improvement arise
- Track follow up items and ensure execution and follow through
- Researches and transfers best practices to support performance improvement projects and renders reports based on analysis and research
- Participates in facility and division budget planning
- Support division leaders in driving Division strategic and financial plans
- Assist Division Performance Improvement Directors in related projects, data pulls and hospital improvement engagements as directed by leadership
- Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees in: Engineering, Healthcare Administration, and Finance preferred.
- Relative work experience may substitute for other degrees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 0-2 years relevant work experience.
- Must be proficient in written and verbal skills.
- Must have advanced analytical skills.
- Experience within healthcare operations required.
- Experience with labor management systems preferred
