HJF is seeking an OPSS Research Associate to monitor, investigate, research, and translate scientific information about dietary supplement ingredients.

 

This position will be in support of the Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) program at the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP), Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). The OPSS Ingredient Database (OPSSID) is a comprehensive database of substances found in or on the labels of products marketed as dietary supplements.

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs literature reviews on dietary supplement ingredients and summarizes findings for the comprehensive OPSS Ingredient Database (OPSSID).
  • Investigates and responds to dietary supplement related questions asked by Service Members, healthcare providers, military leaders, and civilians via the Ask the Expert portal on the OPSS website.
  • Writes evidence-based articles and related content for the OPSS website and other digital platforms.
  • Searches and reviews scientific literature on dietary supplement ingredients and other emerging substances as determined by the OPSS Director. Records federal warnings and other changes to policy surrounding these substances.
  • Attends team meetings and assists the OPSS Team with other projects and initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required. Degrees in Biology or related fields preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with searching, reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting scientific literature.
  • Strong written communication skills. Includes the ability to write articles at both the consumer and health professional level.
  • Applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills and should be able to multitask on several projects or assignments.
  • Must be able to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust.

 

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
