The CalSTRS Accounting Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Accountant Trainee (AT) on the Pension Accounts Payable Team.

The Operational Accounting Division is comprised of three units: Billings and Collections, Disbursements and Taxes, and Contributions. These areas focus on accounting for CalSTRS “cash collection” cycle; “procure to pay” cycle, “disbursement” cycle and accounting for contribution activities.

The Disbursements/Pension Accounts Payable Unit is responsible for the timely reconciliation and processing of member benefit payments via the State Controller’s Office (SCO), monitoring unclaimed and returned payments, and researching customer inquiries regarding member payment accounts.
 

Under the close supervision of the Accounting Administrator II, the AT is responsible for entry level daily operations for the Pension Accounts Payable unit including: reviewing returned paper warrants and rejected Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) payments, collecting lost warrant affidavits, submitting stop payment and/or re-issue requests and monitoring warrant status with SCO. Acts as the primary liaison between CalSTRS, SCO and the EFT contract bank. Monitors the Pension Accounts Payable email box and respond to inquiries regarding member payments from Customer Services, Ombudsman’s office, and Benefits & Services. Assists in processing member payments and prepare and submit claim schedules to the SCO.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
