Safety Specialist

Trelleborg Medical Solutions Litchfield MN is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our team. Responsible for overseeing and leading the organization’s safety program to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment. Ensures overall compliance in all areas of safety including environmental and regulatory.

Responsibilities:

  • Administers and initiates safety policies and assures that adherence is achievable, and compliance is robust, applicable, current and adequate.
  • Influences attitudes and behaviors by inspiring commitment on the part of all employees to comply with safety standards
  • Helps prioritize risks and manages health and safety priorities to ensure appropriate focus of available resources.
  • Works interdepartmentally to actively instill and support a safety culture.
  • Facilitates and maintains records for all applicable safety training requirements.
  • Documents and maintains procedures, processes, instructions, and records that pertain to recommended and required environmental health and safety policies and activities.
  • Evaluates plans and specifications for current, new, or modified equipment and machinery to ensure safety regulations such as Job Hazard Analysis and Energy Control procedures are met and established in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Identifies, communicates, and facilitates the installation of engineering controls or other safeguards to processes and equipment.
  • Manages, maintains and applies knowledge of environmental health requirements and regulations by local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Remains up to date on new and changing regulations and requirements to assure TMS compliance.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine their root cause and initiates corrective and or preventative actions as applicable.
  • Confers with medical professionals to assess health risks and to develop ways to manage health issues and concerns.
  • Assumes the role of Emergency Coordinator when situations warrant.
  • Maintains and communicates the IIPP for TMS.
  • Conducts safety drills, as necessary.
  • Performs routine inspections, ensuring that results are documented.
  • Has stewardship over the TMS Safety Committee in compliance with the IIPP and applicable regulations.
  • Assures that all managers are informed of PPE needed in their areas and are trained on distribution and maintenance of all equipment. Ongoing oversight and assurance of compliance is required.
  • Directs safety audits, assists in the preparation of reports and interacts with local emergency resources, regulatory agencies, consultants and vendors
  • Develops and implements safety incentive initiatives to promote continued awareness and compliance.
  • Consolidates all safety records to ensure visibility, accessibility and availability, this includes OSHA 300 Logs, annual OSHA 300A documentation, and OSHA inspections notice of corrective actions.
  • Acts as liaison between TMS, regulatory agencies, and workers compensation carriers and brokers on recommended Safety/Environmental loss control practices, regulatory requirements, inspections, and required corrective action.
  • Coordinates and conducts safety training for all employees at orientation and again annually.
  • Works with maintenance and manufacturing personnel to write and maintain lock out tag out procedures.
  • Recommends updates to safety processes or procedures in response to growth, plant restructure, new or updated equipment and/or State and Federal regulations.
  • Integrates safety into established continuous improvement efforts by remaining up to date on current industry resources.
  • Actively participates in Continuous Improvement activities. This may include coordination of site continuous improvement program with guidance from plant manager.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering effective safety training programs
  • Demonstrated experience/ability to develop and document procedures, processes, systems, reports and checklists to support safety programs.

Desired:

  • 4-year degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Communications, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial or related field
  • OSHA Certification
  • LEAN Manufacturing - Green Belt
