Operations Manager
Overview
RES is looking for the Operations Manager for its Florida operations sitting In Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, FL or remotely (sitting in Florida).
The mission: The primary mission of this role is the supervision of personnel and the execution of plans to develop the mitigation, agricultural, and recreational use of the company’s properties. This includes properties owned by RES and those jointly developed with external landowners. Currently, RES manages over 10,000 acres in Florida, consisting of mitigation banks where we perform maintenance and monitoring, alongside additional restoration projects underway. This position requires weekly in-state travel to job sites, up to 50% of the time, with per diem provided.
What your day-to-day might look like?
Field Personnel and Equipment Management: You will be responsible for hiring, supervising, and scheduling field personnel and equipment following company policies. This includes ensuring accurate timekeeping and equipment logs for daily use, as well as securing and maintaining company assets such as housing, vehicles, and equipment.
Project and Landowner Relations: Managing landowner relations will be a key part of your role. You will handle bid preparation and supervision, hire subcontractors, and negotiate contracts. Your responsibilities will also include procuring materials and equipment necessary for projects.
Project Planning and Budgeting: You will develop project estimates and budgets, evaluating construction plans during the design phase to ensure feasibility and cost-effectiveness. Establishing and implementing project plans on a timely basis will be crucial to meeting project deadlines and goals.
Health and Safety Standards: Communicating and enforcing health and safety standards on field operations is essential. You will be responsible for ensuring that all field personnel adhere to these standards, minimizing risks and promoting a safe working environment.
Physical requirements of the job:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
- Working outside in harsh and under adverse weather conditions
- Climbing, bending, lifting, and performing a wide range of physical activities, including walking long distance
- Occasional undertaking of field work that includes operating ATVs, tractors, skid steers, and trucks with trailers for hours at a time.
Qualifications
We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in construction, ecological restoration, or agriculture concentration
- 5+ years working in field operations or civil construction, natural resource or water resource infrastructure projects, or land management.
- Experience coordinating and supervising subcontractors and field employees
- Contract execution and negotiation experience
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to obtain / maintain a Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commercial Applicator’s License.
What will make you stand out?
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license & should be willing to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Prior experience with construction estimating in the restoration space and/or project management software such as Heavy Bid or Bid to Win or ability to quickly learn a similar software
- Ability to provide practical feedback on construction drawings during design phase
