About the Position:

Under the general direction of a Senior Transportation Planner in the District 1 System Planning Office, the incumbent performs Geographic Information System (GIS) work supporting development of District Corridor Management Plans, maintenance of the District 1 Map Gallery, management and development of Caltrans' District 1 Enterprise GIS resources. Incumbent serves as District 1 Coordinator and Enterprise Data Steward and represents District 1 in statewide GIS planning efforts. Provides technical support to district GIS users on the ArcGIS Enterprise platform and creates trainings and workflows for desktop and web-based software. The incumbent plans, develops, deploys, and maintains GIS products used internally by the Department, local agency partners, and/or published for public consumption that are created independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team. GIS products include ArcGIS Enterprise Online and Portal-based maps and applications, print maps, large complex spatial databases, REST Feature/Map/Imagery services, and geospatial analyses supporting District 1 System Planning projects. Incumbent created cartographic products used to visually communicate information about State highway projects, plans, issues, and achievements to internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent understands and conforms with policies, standards, and guidance from Caltrans Enterprise Data and Geospatial Governance while staying up to date on industry trends and applicable technologies such as changes to to the ArcGIS platform, automation through scripting, security issues, geospatial tools, graphic design tools, and evolving Caltrans spatial data infrastructure.
