EHS Environmental Engineer (Summer Intern)
We are a global chemical company and one of the nation's leading manufacturers of agricultural products. Our Hannibal plant is built to manufacture high-quality products in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner. We occasionally have the need for contingent labor, and that's where you come in. This is a paid, full-time, temporary position. If chosen, you will report to a manager/mentor who will provide you with oversight and details of your assignments.
The scope of assignments for this role will vary, but will likely include:
- Support updates to the point of generation waste determinations (prepare determinations, update drawings, upgrade spreadsheet, improve data management). This will include exposure to the facility’s waste inventory and label systems, and to the spreadsheets and databases used to manage data retention and reporting.
- Working closely with the site RCRA waste specialist, develop an applicability schematic for all RCRA regulatory exemptions used at the site. Map the applicability using P&IDs, block flow diagrams, and waste determination data.
- Provide permit implementation support for the RCRA hazardous waste permit renewal. This may involve assisting with updates to waste minimization documentation to address site sustainability goals and actions, updates to various RCRA required plans and documentation, updates to the closure cost estimate, and/or helping to develop a work plan for a human health risk assessment.
- RCRA Operating Log file maintenance plus assistance in redesign and organization of digital file storage
- Participate in walkthroughs, evaluations, and condition inspections of waste activities across the site.
- Assist with RCRA Corrective Action soils evaluations, excavation management, and soil management plan compliance support
- May be asked to support other environmental projects related to waste, air, or water regulations.
Required and Preferred Qualifications: Engineering program preferred (environmental, civil, or chemical), but hard science is acceptable. Student should either have engineering coursework focused in environmental, or have chemistry/chemical engineering coursework with a strong interest in environmental. Specific classes related to environmental regulation and/or RCRA hazardous waste a plus. Excel spreadsheet experience a strong plus.
This job pays an hourly wage (depending on experience) for a 40-hour week, plus an additional housing stipend for each month.
