The Motor Fuels Tax Consultant (“Consultant”) works with a team to identify tax savings for clients and to gain an understanding of the client’s methodology for computing each component of fuels and excise tax. This includes researching and analyzing federal, multi-state and local fuels tax issues, reconciling databases, and completing detailed calculations.

  • Conducts written and verbal communication with clients and others.

  • Researches and analyzes federal, multi-state and local fuels tax issues and communicates the analysis results to management.
  • Gathers data, enters data, and prepares fuels tax refund claims.
  • Works with data received in Microsoft® Access and Excel formats to prepare refund claims.
  • Pulls and copies invoice to support refund claims.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience: 
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Information Systems, Economics, 
Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or other degree w/ Masters in Business Discipline or JD.  Must have 9 hours of Accounting or the ability to substitute technical courses for accounting hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and a Major GPA of 3.25 or higher.  One to three years related accounting and auditing experience required.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook and Internet navigation and research.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment:
•    Standard indoor working environment.
•    Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
•    Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm in person and via e-mail and telephone.
•    Position requires regular interaction with clients and interface with external vendors in person and via e-mail and telephone. 
•    Independent travel requirement: Up to 10-20%.
