Principal Data AI Engineer
A Day in the Life:
The Principal Data AI Engineer will be a blended data and AI engineering role responsible for both building and maintaining data pipelines/workflows as well as developing algorithms to enable process automation for data and analytic software products. This individual will act as the technical lead for a team of engineers, data scientists, data analysts, software developers and business SMEs to deliver new and exciting products and services. The main objectives are to provide technical leadership in the development of data pipelines and fully automated workflows to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness for data-driven decisions across the company. This includes fostering collaboration, building partnerships, co-developing products, sharing knowledge, providing insights and valuable predictive information to business teams and leaders to highlight potential risks and opportunities that initiate the drive for change.
The starting salary for this role is $170K; commensurate with experience
What You'll Do:
- Building, optimizing, and automating data pipelines in both cloud and on-premise infrastructure
- Data acquisition, data ingestion, data cleansing, data transformation, and data migration
- Improving data integrity and quality and implementing modern solutions and frameworks to streamline existing processes
- Identify trends in datasets and develop workflows and help with streaming analytics to take advantage of raw data flows
- Curate rich datasets and prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modeling
- Ensure data sets are thoroughly tested before release to production environments
- Strive for engineering excellence by simplifying, optimizing, and automating processes and workflows
- Develop algorithms to enable machines to perform tasks without explicit instructions
- Create models for visual recognition, processing of natural language that analyze complex data to make predictions or decisions, mimicking human intelligence
- Identify the most effective model architecture and parameters to drive accuracy and performance
- Mentor data engineers, scientists and analysts in best practices
What We're Looking for:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or related field
- Master’s degree strongly preferred
- Minimum of 15 years hands-on experience in a data engineering, data product development, data science or related roles
- Minimum of 5 years of technical team leadership or management experience
- Minimum 2 years of intensive experience with data lakes and cloud computing, preferably on the AWS cloud platform
- Profound grasp of machine learning, neural networks, large language models and/or advanced algorithms
- Demonstrated experience in algorithm selection, model training, fine-tuning performance and implementation in data products
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a proven record for identifying and diagnosing problems, and solving complex problems with simple, logical solutions
- Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical issues and concepts to multiple organization levels
- Preferred
- Strong expertise with modern data lake tools such as Databricks or PySpark
- Experience with event driven architectures and data streaming pub/sub technologies such as Kafka and Amazon Kinesis
- Strong capabilities in languages such as Python, R, Scala or Java
- Agile/Scrum experience
