Actuarial Internship:

CNO’s Actuarial Intern program is designed to introduce college students to the application of actuarial skills in insurance. Summer interns will gain valuable experience with the company's products in life insurance, annuities, and/or supplemental health insurance, in both the product management and valuation areas. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with actuaries and each other over the course of the internship, get a behind-the-scenes look at the quantitative tools actuaries use, and see the inner workings of an Insurance company.

This is a paid internship, at competitive rates of between $23-25 depending on your work location. Memorial Day and 4th of July holidays are paid days off. 

As an Actuarial Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Simplifying and standardizing valuation calculations
  • Work with actuarial software packages
  • Providing clear documentation and communication of technical work
  • Improve actuarial projections for pricing and valuation

The CNO 2025 internship program will run mid May – early August, 2025. During this period, we offer programming that compliments the learning provided by the department through work and other activities such as:

  • Development Opportunities 
  • Insurance Product and Industry Presentation Series 
  • An in-person event at one of our corporate offices during the last week of July 
  • Final Presentations 
  • Volunteering Event 

Qualified candidates for an Actuarial Intern position will have:

  • Progress towards a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, math, statistics, economics, finance or another related field
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 
  • A commitment to achieving Society of Actuaries designation
  • Current status as a rising junior or rising senior, with anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and December 2027. CNO is striving to bring a mix of rising seniors and rising juniors into the program. 
  • Availability to work 10-12 weeks during the summer 
  • Superior analytical, mathematical and project management skills 
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Office products, and VBA/SAS/SQL programming are a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

 

CNO embraces flexibility and encourages you to work where you’re most productive. For students residing within 60 miles of CNO’s Carmel, IN or Chicago corporate office, interns will have access to come into the office. If there are groups of interns near either location, informal lunches may also be arranged. For interns not residing within 60 miles of a CNO corporate office, CNO also offers internships as fully remote / work-from-home from any US based location. All interns will be expected to work Eastern or Central time zone hours regardless of location. 

To ensure accessibility to our corporate campuses, we ask that candidates for full time opportunities after graduation plan to live within a 60 mile drive of Carmel or Chicago upon graduation.
