Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designee, the Research Associate provides operational support to the laboratory. The Research Associate will perform research experiments as defined by the PI.

This is an open-rank posting (there are 4 levels of Research Associate) - candidates will be hired into the level commensurate with their experience.

The Korostelev lab at the RNA Therapeutics Institute, UMass Chan Medical School, seeks a motivated Research Associate. Expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry is a plus. Responsibilities will include:

1. Expression and purification of recombinant proteins and nucleic acids from bacterial cells and in vitro reactions.

2. Mammalian cell culture: nucleic-acid transfection, protein expression and molecular biology assays.

3. Maintenance of the laboratory, including supply ordering and organizing, cell line maintenance.

We study regulation of gene expression, focusing on (a) ribosome/translation regulation in neurons and neurodegenerative diseases and on (b) development of RNA therapeutics against neurodegenerative diseases, and nonsense-mutation diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. We use a range of approaches, including cellular biology, structural biology and biochemistry (https://www.umassmed.edu/korostelev-lab/, also see selected publications below).

Our laboratory is housed at the RNA Therapeutics Institute, a vibrant and highly interactive research community:
