Overview:
- Community Education Group is searching for interested undergraduate students for a one or two semester internship under the direction of the Media Manager. You will be responsible for helping with the development and implementation of marketing strategies and campaigns across various digital and in-person platforms and assisting with the planning and execution of events. This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in event management, develop organizational skills, and contribute to the successful delivery of events and will help increase CEG’s online presence and recognition and will develop skills that are useful across many industries. You will be working closely with the Media Department and other teams.
About the Organization:
- Community Education Group (CEG) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to eliminate disparities in health outcomes and improve public health in disadvantaged populations and under-served communities. CEG accomplishes this by conducting capacity-building and needs assessments, training community health workers, sharing our expertise through national networks and local capacity-building efforts, and advocating for practical and effective health policies that lead to social change. CEG has over 30 years of experience in various sectors relating to health disparities and today is committed to bringing resources, opportunities, and attention to the 13 states of Appalachia.
Job Location:
- Remote with opportunities to travel - Preference will be given to those living in or with connections to the rural regions of the 13 states of Appalachia: AL, GA, KY, MD, MS, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, WV.
- Must be able to accept domestic and international travel opportunities up to 25% of hours worked.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists with the creation of promotional materials, social media content, and event invitations
- Assists in ensuring that the organization’s marketing is professional and appeals to various stakeholder group
- Assists with the planning and coordination of events, including logistical support, scheduling, and communication with vendors and clients
- Demonstrate knowledge of social media such as TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
- Conducts research on venues, vendors, and event trends to support the planning process
- Work closely with the Communications, Media and Events team to ensure all tasks and deadlines are met efficiently
- Cut, trim, and edit video footage to create high-quality and engaging content for various platforms including social media, websites, and promotional materials
- Develop and enhance narratives by selecting the most effective shots and sequences, ensuring that the video communicates the intended message clearly and creatively
- Apply post-production color correction, audio adjustments, and visual effects to enhance the final product
- Ensure that all content meets the required technical and aesthetic standards
- Collaborate with other team members to understand project objectives and incorporate feedback into the editing process
- Ensure that all projects are completed on time and to a high standard of quality, adhering to production schedules and project requirements
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in video editing software and techniques to bring fresh ideas and improve editing practices
- Demonstrates knowledge of researching topics for social media and marketing around Appalachia, HIV, Hepatitis, and other public health issues
- Experience of marketing tools such as Canva and Adobe Applications
- Work with Media Manager on developing media/marketing campaigns on social media
- Assist in the maintenance and editing of newsletters and email lists
- Self-manage work projects and timelines
- Communicate work progress and challenges immediately with supervisor
- Assure all media and marketing meets expectations and deadlines given
- Learn, be aware of, and adopt culturally competent and equitable health communication skills that are appropriate to specific populations
- Maintain and update organization’s website when requested
- Other marketing, media and event planning duties as assigned

Internship Requirements/Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate from a higher education program (associate or bachelor's degrees preferred)
- Completed course work in areas engaging in: Communications, Media, Marketing, Public Relations, or related areas
- Flexibility of schedule is crucial for this role, including ability to travel up to 25% of internship both domestically and internationally
- Ability to incorporate marketing theories and models into day-to-day work
- Knowledge or experience with marketing for non-profit organizations is preferred
- Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media best practices
- Proven experience as a video editor with a strong portfolio showcasing your work
- Basic knowledge of WordPress
- Familiarity with web design and publishing
- Excellent knowledge of design applications (Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, After effects, and InDesign and Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools)
- Knowledge of motion graphics, color grading, and sound design is a plus
- Strong creative vision and the ability to transform raw footage into engaging and cohesive video content
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify errors and inconsistencies in video and audio
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Calendar,) content management systems, social media platforms, Affinity design software (Designer, Photo, and Publisher), and survey tools. Experience with HTML, SPSS, and use of other computing packages, such as Tableau, is preferred
- Experience analyzing data collected through web-based systems and surveys
- Be able to communicate effectively with staff, CEG partner organizations, public and elected officials, and other external parties.

Schedule:
- Interns will be expected to work most of their time between 9 am – 5 pm EST, Monday through Friday, but exact working hours are flexible. Interns will work no more than 20 hours per week, but the precise number of hours is also negotiable at the time of hire, depending on internship requirements and CEG needs.
Compensation:
- Intern will be paid $18.00 per hour worked and a letter of recommendation upon successful internship completion.
