Polymer Chemist II

NEMO|etc. is seeking a skilled chemist with an enthusiasm for real-world products to join our dynamic team as a Polymer Chemist II at our Columbia, South Carolina laboratory facilities. This is a critical position in the company, leading our polymer work as we continue to serve the building construction industry.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a materials laboratory AND a minimum Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field. Applicants must be proficient in the formation and bonding of molecular and atomic materials. Working knowledge of polymer testing and real-world use cases is required. The candidate should be confident in developing the connection between the materials-under-test, their make-up and/or chemistry and the performance thereof while performing normative test methods. Above all, the successful candidate will be a self-motivated, team player who thrives in hands-on work and tackling new challenges.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Technical Work
  • Lead polymer-related activities
  • Read and comprehend test procedures, protocols and methods relating to polymers used in building construction components and systems
  • Develop the connection between the materials-under-test, their make-up and or chemistry and the performance thereof while performing normative test methods
  • Establish and maintain project files and documents
  • Prepare and assemble test specimens and/or witness, document and assist clients with test specimen construction
  • Conduct tests and record data
• Technical Support
  • Comprehend and communicate to team the project scope and status
  • Comprehend the transition of raw data into a final deliverable (laboratory report), while assisting the role of Technical Writer, ensuring correct reporting.
  • Assist with developing and improving procedures and expanding test capabilities of the laboratory
