Winter Co-op/Analytical Data Science

GSK

Department Description:

The position will work in the Strategic External Development (SED) department within GSK R&D. SED is an externally focused CMC organization accountable to deliver CMC activities through GSK’s network of trusted external partners whilst remaining closely connected with GSK’s internal technical teams.

Job Description:

In SED, there is a critical need to expedite and harmonize the manual transcription and data verifying process for static analytical data (PDF’s, etc) received from our CDMO partners. To facilitate capturing CDMO data dynamically, and the subsequent processes for harmonizing and data verifying these documents, SED needs further evolving/training/understanding AI/ML assisted transcribing tools that may be available within GSK. Additionally, alignment within MDS DDA initiatives are needed.

There are needs for standardized data management processes for creating reliable, verifiable, traceable and auditable transcribed analytical data both in SED and bridged across GSK MDS in alignment with 2025 DDA initiatives.

Currently, there is a data transcription tool (DTT) available developed by GSK R&D Tech and in (limited) use throughout the GSK MDS organization. The DTT needs practical application learning for SED analytical data sets. Although the final goal of this co-op program is to help facilitate and align our DTT needs, there is an additional data transformation requirement which is an automated and verifiable system that can be used in conjunction with transcription for expediting data into filings and reports without extensive manual needs for data integrity processes currently used. Many current instances of this need include, but are not limited to, CofA’s, stability reports, non GMP chromatographic data sets/reports, comparability studies and API raw materials and intermediates.

The requested data co-op request would fulfill and provide support for ongoing activities in data transcription and management, including additional activities for greater MDS DDA (digital data alignment) understanding. The ideal co-op would be pursuing college interests in computer science in conjunction with chemistry, biology, or pharmaceutical scineces studies.

The co-op will have the ability to learn common biopharmaceutical analytical data transfer activities, processes, and interpretations, and become familiarized with transcription SW and AI verification tools, and gain insights into DDA aspects of analytical reporting and regulatory filing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or similar disciplines.
  • Has had coursework, previous intern experience, or exposure to Computer Science, specifically in AI/ML and or Data Science.
  • Has pharmaceutical laboratory experience.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 6-month co-op (January 2025 ~ June 2025).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in analytical data sets that undergo machine learning (ML) processes.
  • Experience in oligonucleotide analytical chemistry.

Benefits:

  • While GSK embraces a flexible work environment, we do require certain positions to be onsite.
