Legal Associate

Job Title: Legal Associate
Location: Remote
Type: Internship
Duration: 6 months

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Legal Associate with a focus on Intellectual Property (IP). The candidate will be responsible for managing and executing tasks related to copyright and trademark registration. This role requires a thorough understanding of IP laws and excellent organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Copyright Registration:
    • Prepare and file copyright applications with the relevant authorities.
    • Ensure compliance with all copyright laws and regulations.
    • Conduct searches to verify the originality of works and avoid infringement.
    • Maintain accurate records of all copyright registrations and renewals.
  • Trademark Registration:
    • Conduct trademark searches to assess the availability and risk of potential trademarks.
    • Prepare and file trademark applications and manage the registration process.
    • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely responses to office actions and other correspondence.
    • Handle oppositions, cancellations, and other contentious trademark matters.
  • Legal Research and Documentation:
    • Stay updated on changes in IP laws and regulations.
    • Conduct legal research on various IP-related issues.
    • Draft, review, and manage IP-related agreements, including licensing and assignment agreements.
  • Advisory and Compliance:
    • Provide legal advice on IP issues to internal teams.
    • Ensure compliance with IP laws and regulations.
    • Assist in developing and implementing IP policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; a Master's degree in Law (LLM) with a focus on Intellectual Property is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IP law, specifically in copyright and trademark registration.
  • Strong understanding of IP laws and procedures.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with IP management software and databases.
  • Experience in handling international IP registrations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
