Responsibilities Include:
As our Product Development Chemist, you will improve current products and create new products, and serve as a technical expert that supports product improvements, quality improvements, customer requests, and cost savings initiatives, including, but not limited to efficiency improvements. Responsible for formulation and generation of representative lab-scale samples for evaluation. Other duties include process optimization and product enhancement activities. You will conduct technical and complex scientific assignments that involve planning and running experiments to verify revisions. This position is responsible for projects of a limited scope or for portions of a larger project. Works closely with production, engineering, product managers and management to accomplish objectives.
· Evaluate formulations to identify means of overall product improvement and stability; May require literature and patent searches to obtain background knowledge and to determine freedom to operate with a new formulation.
· Modify formulations to decrease toxicity and to improve product cost, functionality, and performance.
· Develop specifications for new/reformulated products in conjunction with product marketing.
· Assist other scientists with experiments and/or participate in research projects. May serve as project leader with responsibility for project management.
· Run experiments at a bench scale and oversee implementation in production environment, address resulting deviations.
· Establish guidelines and criteria for acceptance and testing of chemical raw materials in finished blends. May be required to evaluate raw materials.
· Develop assays and QC methods for new products.
· Participate in Product Improvement teams to facilitate on-going production improvements or new product development projects and serve as a technical expert.
· Test formulations using assays and other relevant test methods.
Requirements:
· MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, preferred.
· 2-plus years technical experience in chemical or related manufacturing, process chemistry or process development.
· Understanding of chemical process scale up, preferred.
· Proven bench chemistry skills with hands-on experience in organic chemistry, titration, and electrochemistry.
· Knowledge and understanding of organic reactions, reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and thermodynamics.
· Proven problem-solving skills and history of successful technical accomplishments.
· Motivated individual that has demonstrated the ability to produce results while working independently.
· Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize.
