Program Engagement Staff

Position Description:

The Akron Zoo is looking for Program Engagement Staff. Core responsibilities include guiding students and teachers through the zoo while giving information about animal adaptations and presenting topic based information at stations throughout the zoo using an inquiry-based structure.  This position is a 20-25 hour a week position, working Monday-Friday approximately 9am-1:30pm.   The Program Engagement Staff reports directly to the Education Mission Manager.

This position will be working mostly Mondays through Fridays for the following dates:  September 2-13 and September 23-November 4.  It may end before November 4 based on program needs and school closings.

Essential job functions:

  • Teach Zoo Conservation Education Programs
  • Guide teachers and students through the zoo, while sharing information in an engaging, theatrical manner
  • Play a character to present topic based information at stations throughout the zoo.

Qualifications:

The candidate for this position should have a high school diploma with some college preferred in the areas of science, education, or theater.  The individual should be comfortable presenting in a fun and engaging manner (being silly for younger audiences) while also making sure to include inquiry based instruction.

The Program Engagement Staff should be highly organized, outgoing, collaborative, strategic, independent, fun, creative, self-starter who is able to multi-task and work independently within a busy work environment.  Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), strong relationship building skills, and exceptional customer service skills.
