Assistant Controller
Position: Assistant Controller - Reporting to the CFO of a family run business established in 1952 servicing the commercial, wholesale and propane segments of the petroleum industry generating approximately $350 million annually. Currently led by 3rd generation ownership that takes pride in their family friendly atmosphere and culture of standing behind their word that has positioned them for significant growth by leveraging their technology driven, forward thinking organization.
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting in the daily management of the general accounting function, including financial reporting and analysis, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliation, cost accounting and annual audit. This position will play a key role in the annual budget process and will report to the Controller.
Background Required:
Technical accounting – strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principals, including experience with recent major pronouncements (Rev Rec, Lease Accounting)
Business processes – in depth knowledge of major business processes (Order to Cash, Procure to Pay)
Month End Close – experience leading, or serving a significant role in managing month end close.
Technology – advanced excel skills; knowledge of large-scale ERP platforms
Significant experience managing people
A mix of technical accounting and finance skills needed to effectively lead accounting and back office functions
ERP System – Accounting financial reporting
Budgeting process & proactive forecasting
Developing Ad Hoc Cost Accounting Models
Establishing proper internal control of an asset organization (i.e. Accounting, IT Security)
Flexibility in working on numerous projects at one time
Analyzed current costs, margins and prices and determined profitable strategies
Created and captured value using innovative pricing strategies
Provided profitability reporting and business analysis on new and existing customers
Advanced computer literacy: Microsoft Office, Excel, databases, statistical applications
Education: BS or BA (i.e. Business, Finance, Economics)
