General Education Teacher

About us: Safely Home has a residential and education service for youth 7-17 years old. We care for youth with emotional and behavioral concerns many times due to neglect, abuse, and various types of trauma. Safely Home’s mission is to bring healing and growth to youth and families with histories of behavioral health conditions, abuse, and neglect. Our objective is to help youth and families understand their past, develop life skills, behaviors, and strategies to have successful relationships in their lives. The Safely Home School is a specialized education program for children and adolescents who have been identified as needing specialized and personal educational service because of learning differences and/or behavioral concerns. Prosocial skills are taught and modeled to develop behavioral patterns. The teacher/student ratio is 1:6 to preserve the individualized learning and support. Safely Home’s objective is to help each child cope with their past, as well as help them develop life skills, behaviors, and strategies which will enable them to be successful in life and maintain rewarding relationships with others in their future. By providing a well-rounded and thoughtful program for our youth and family, we offer our services for some of the most vulnerable in our population. We are currently seeking a General Education Teacher to teach middle-school aged youth.

As a General Teacher at Safely Home, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Prepare, develop, and implement timely instructional lesson plans aligned to Ohio State Standards
  • Lead classroom settings by providing strong communication skills, empathy, and a student-centered approach
  • Create and manages a caring, supportive, purposeful, and stimulating environment conducive to children’s learning
  • Implement the academic program’s model and provide support in teaching staff in applying positive behavior management principles within a designed, individualized behavior program for students
  • Use computers and other technology provided to assist and support students and their learning
  • Ensure orderly, motivational, an aspirational culture, and a strong school community where teaching, learning, and healthy relationships can thrive
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Role model prosocial, mediation, and self-management skills
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the student record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards
  • Maintain accurate classroom records including grades, attendance, tardiness, and behavior
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ohio Teaching License
  • Meets State Board of Education standards and regulations

Experience preferences:

  • A combination of education, training, and/or experience in working with youth and adolescents with mental health or behavioral health concerns
  • Proven effective classroom instructional and management skills
  • Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development including human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, criminology, and behavior therapy
  • Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes, and abilities
