Transformer Coil Winder

Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for coil winding transformers in workshop. These activities require the timely completion of these activities at/or under budgeted cost to the complete satisfaction of our customers.
Responsibilities / Duties:
- Rewind various kinds of liquid and dry type transformers.
- Operate wire- coiling machines to wind wire or sheet coils.
- Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed for project.
- Must have ability to read and interpret winding data sheets, and drawings.
- Operate winding lathes, punches, and shears.
- Must be able to cut, strip, and bend wire leads.
- Must have ability to select and load materials onto equipment.
- Record production and operational data on specified forms.
- Spot quality concerns and bring to attention of supervisor.
- Use good housekeeping and organizational skills to maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Inspect various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment for damage and evidence of electrical malfunctions.
- Attach, alter, and trim materials using hand tools.
- Use of an overhead crane to load and unload materials from machine.
- Dismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electro-mechanical equipment.
- Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding and inspect renewed parts for hidden, structural damage, or unusual conditions.
- Observe proper insulating techniques and/or requirements during rewinding.
- Must have the ability to use brazing and welding equipment to make brazed connections, fabricate crossovers, burn leads, etc.
- Complete the required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
- Operate specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to: winding machines, Insulation resistance testers, cut-off saws, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems and various hand-held power and non-power tools
- Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.).
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Report all injuries, near misses, and accidents immediately to a supervisor.
- Electrical testing, recording connection, and winding data on QA forms, ordering materials, winding random coils, insertion of finished coils, connecting coils, testing, taping, and tying finished coils, and prepping for install.
- Perform assignments as directed based on departmental needs.
Measures of Success:
- Department efficiencies; i.e. low rework and warranty costs, manpower utilization, work completed at/or under estimated hours.
- Customer satisfaction.
- Meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
- On-time completion of project(s).
Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess a high school diploma.
- An in-depth knowledge of transformer coil winding.
- This position requires an individual experienced in transformers and transformer coil winding.
- The position demands an individual who is hard working at achieving company objectives, detail oriented, able to direct personnel in a positive manner with effective oral & written communication skills.
