Job Responsibilities

The Cadet intern will:

  • Maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrate the Ohio State Highway Patrol Core Values.
  • Be required to complete the physical fitness assessment each month.
  • Successfully complete the Cadet Internship Training Manual with the assistance of the post mentor.
  • Learn the Division's structure, Mission Statement, Code of Conduct, Core Values, radio signals, criminal and traffic laws, proper cleaning techniques for equipment.
  • Assist post personnel with various administrative duties (e.g., filing, database entry, answering phones, greet visitors).
  • Operate the LEADS terminal.
  • Assist at various events, OVI checkpoints, and traffic crashes.
  • Assist the Commercial and Salvage Inspection Teams and Court Liaison Officer.
  • Participate in community programs.
  • Perform post maintenance duties.
  • Ensure care of patrol cars.
  • Assist Field Recruiters in college and high school career days, applicant contacts and speech details.
  • Participate in the Cadet Internship Ride-Along Program with the post mentor.
  • *Cadets Interns will have no authority or police powers
  • Cadet Interns will NOT perform the duties of a trooper.
  • At NO time are Cadet Interns allowed to make arrests, issue citations, or confront persons suspected of criminal behavior.
  • Cadet Interns DO NOT carry firearms.
