Law School Legal Intern - Academic Year/Renewable Internship

USAC’s target compensation rate for a new hire into this position is $22.00 USD per hour. All intern positions are eligible for USAC Commuter Benefits, training opportunities, and free access to an on-site gym facility.

USAC administers the $10 billion Universal Service Fund, which the FCC created to address serious gaps in needed coverage.

The Intern will participate in USAC-sponsored activities, training opportunities, and networking events. 

Your Role

The intern will receive work across the Office of General Counsel and gain experience in FCC regulatory affairs and in-house attorney responsibilities. Interns may be given assignments such as the following: conduct research and provide written analysis on the administration of the USF programs, assist in issues involving labor and employment, update contractual language with outside parties, and review USAC documents to ensure compliance with federal privacy requirements. 

Interns who demonstrate exceptional work may be invited to return for another year and potentially a permanent role upon graduation.

About You

  • You are passionate about our mission to help Americans gain access to essential communications technology.
  • You are a problem solver with great attention to detail, can work with little supervision, multi-task, and learn quickly.
  • You have some exposure and experience with the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • You are a quick study, love brainstorming new ideas, and are eager to find solutions.
  • You are agile at working across other departments. 
  • Current student in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with a general understanding of data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as acting autonomously as appropriate.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • You must be going into your 2nd or 3rd year at an accredited law school.
  • Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to remain eligible for the program. 
  • Interns must work for a minimum of 16 hours per week (and no more than 19 hours a week) in the USAC office in Washington, DC. 
  • Sponsorship for the USAC Career Path internship program is not available for foreign nationals.
