Job purpose
Trinity United Church of Christ in Wadsworth Ohio, an Open & Affirming congregation, seeks a Children and Youth Ministry (CYM) Director to provide programming for children and youth (infant through high school). The CYM Director will report directly to the pastor but work in collaboration with the Christian Education Committee (CEC) in implementing programming.
We are looking for someone to bring new energy and ideas to our programs, including:
- Fun, safe childcare during services for infants – 3 years.
- Creative, dynamic, age-appropriate Sunday School activities for grades PreK-6th grade.
- Meaningful youth programs, including fellowship, worship, and service opportunities, for grades 7-12.
- Special events and ministries (e.g., VBS, Youth Retreats, etc…)
Duties and responsibilities
Faith Formation
- Demonstrate support for the mission, vision, policies, programs, and other initiatives of Trinity UCC
- Work with appropriate church leaders to set goals, determine priorities, establish programs and coordinate calendar.
- Oversight in all areas of Children and Youth Ministry
- Work cooperatively with the pastor on Children’s messages and confirmation class instruction
- Develop Sunday school and confirmation curriculum in conjunction with the pastor and CEC.
- In collaboration with the CEC (& Pastor), organize special ministries and events such as Vacation Bible School, Advent Activities, Easter Egg Hunt, youth services, fundraisers and more
- Empower parents to be involved with the faith development of their children and their church related activities
Administrative
- Order supplies
- Recruit teachers and volunteers for Sunday school, Acolytes, Beginners Room, Nursery and scheduled events
- Recruit and manage teachers for Wee-Twos program, organize activities and provide craft and educational supplies. This program runs from September to May.
- Participate in regularly scheduled church staff meetings and Christian Education Committee meetings
- Keeping current of the latest trends, methods, and materials as related to religious education.
- Write and submit regular reports as needed (e.g., For our Annual Report)
Qualifications
- A commitment to Christ and a calling to Faith Formation
- High School diploma required
- Previous experience in children and youth ministries is ideal, but not required - it’s about your passion
Knowledge, skills, and abilities desired
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children and parents
- Strong ability to work with a wide range of ages
Other requirements of the position
- Integrity and trustworthiness as pertaining to possession of keys and use of the church facility
- Completion of satisfactory background check
Hours of work
- This is a part-time position, with limited hours averaging 15 hours per week.
- Hours to include Sunday mornings for Sunday School as well as regularly scheduled meetings for Youth Ministry.
Salary
- Compensation based on experience and qualifications to be discussed in person.
