Public Affairs Specialist combines communications, government relations, information dissemination, and media engagement. As a strategic communicator you have the power to weave narratives that engage, resonate, and leave a lasting impact. As a Public Affairs Specialist your typical work assignments include, but not limited to developing communication plans, writing/ editing speeches, scripts, talking points and remarks. Manage media inquiries, craft press releases, and orchestrate media engagements. You will research, analyze, interpret, and blend information from various sources on written content covering the entire spectrum of the DIA's program areas. Determine and reconciling contradictions in the information compiled. Evaluate information requirements and tailoring the information to meet the needs or interests of a variety of audiences. Ensure all communications represent DIA's policies and objectives. WRITING SAMPLE IS REQUIRED FOR AN INTERVIEW.

Highly Desired: Degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or English, as well as liberal studies degree with a concentration on writing or marketing from an accredited institution or minimum of 3-5years of relevant experience.

  • Develop communication and outreach plans to actively engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, partners, industry, academia, and media partners.
  • Experience with evaluating, analyzing and extracting relevant data to develop various communications, facilitate engagements, and other informational materials.
  • Understands the target audience and tailoring the message to meet the demographics, interests, and beliefs, ensuring that the messaging resonates with specific needs/outcomes.
  • Knowledge and application of writing processes, principles and techniques in research, storytelling, speech writing and strategic messaging to draft original content and create custom products for a variety of channels and audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, story construction, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to formulate ideas and multi-task on multiple fronts – engage with customers, troubleshoot issues, share expertise, and assist peers.
