Groundskeeper

RESPONSIBILITIES

Our 30-acre landscape at main campus is unlike what you’ll find at other hospitals or large properties. We have a densely planted, extremely diverse, botanical garden style landscape with a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, and ferns. Our collection includes over three thousand plant species, including many rare and uncommon plants, making it an interesting environment to work in. We also have a lot of different types of spaces including a children’s play garden, rain gardens, a fully planted roof garden, wildflower meadow, natural areas, green roofs, beds with mixed perennials and grasses, and lots and lots of trees. The spaces we take care of are appreciated and enjoyed by patients, families, and staff, who can be experiencing very difficult situations, so it can be really fulfilling place to do horticulture.

Maintain natural environments, landscaping, and outdoor hardscapes including shrubs, trees, lawns, irrigation, and sidewalks. Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather at the main campus of Seattle Children's Hospital, and at various clinical and non-clinical off-sites as assigned. Essential duties include weeding, pruning, grooming, raking, mulching, planting, digging, plant removal, blowing, mowing, edging, string trimming, pressure washing, litter/garbage pickup, snow/ice removal, and ensuring walkways, stairs, and other outdoor spaces remain safe and clear of hazards.
