Dance Instructor- School Of Performing Arts

The School of Performing Arts Dance Instructor will contribute to the vision, mission, and values of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation by developing and executing an age appropriate curriculum for JCC School of Dance students ranging PreK through adult, instructing early childhood movement classes for the growth and well-being of JCC Early Learning Center students, and engaging with the greater community through outreach programs and workshops. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  1. Develop and instruct weekly dance courses for students age 3 to adult in genres including but not limited to Creative Movement, tap, ballet, jazz.
  2. Prepare Creative Movement, Mini, and Dance Curriculum students for semi-annual Showcase Performances.
  3. Instruct music and movement classes for students ages 6 months to 5 years, following the class descriptions. Classes will consist of circle time, singing, activities around the space, music, and ending songs.
  4. Create working relationships with ELC class teachers.
  5. Identify and demonstrate behaviors that are critical to the success of the School of Performing Arts Dance program.
  6. Adapt classes to varying levels and schedules, and may include lessons on or off campus.
  7. Be prompt and arrive at least 10 minutes before class. Begin and end class on time.
  8. Ensure that any used equipment is sanitized, put away, and stereo equipment is off.
  9. Communicate and cooperate with colleagues, members, and guests as part of the JCC team, including attending staff meetings as needed.
  10. Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies
  11. Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Workload expected: M/T/W evenings and Thursday mornings, with additional outreach or community programs and administrative work as needed.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has two or more years of dance teaching experience, including with students under 5 years of age. Self motivation, a high level of organization, and a love for dance and childhood education is a must. School of Performing Arts Dance Instructors must have current CPR/First-Aid certifications on file and must meet comprehensive background requirements for licensed child care programs in the state of Ohio. A physical and drug test are required for employment.
