AIR POLLUTION SPECIALIST

This position can be located in Sacramento or Riverside County.
 

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

If you have permanent status and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position/classification at the end of this LT appointment. You will be separated from state service if you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status. During this 12-month limited-term assignment, you may be entitled to receive health, dental, and vision benefits. You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

If you are, come join us at the Office of Racial Equity (ORE) within the Environmental Justice and Equity Branch (EJEB) at the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The branch plays an important role in addressing environmental justice and advancing racial equity throughout the agency.

ORE is committed to promoting racial equity and environmental justice as a fundamental part of all that CARB does, including programs that reduce exposure to pollutants and improve the quality of life of California communities facing environmental and economic challenges. This section will work closely with the Office of Environmental Justice, Tribal Affairs, and Boarder Relations (OEJTB), the Office of Community Air Protection, and other divisions withing CARB to significantly increase CARB's meaningful community engagement, including outreach, partnership building, and coordination on planning and policy development to incorporate a racial equity lens at CARB.

ORE is seeking an engaging, creative, and enthusiastic Limited Term (LT) Air Pollution Specialist (APS) candidate to support the mission of ORE and further racial equity work across CARB. We're looking for a candidate who can be a part of a fast-paced, high-profile, team-oriented, collaborative environment; understands diversity, equity, inclusion and belongingness; and is proficient in public policy, project management, communications, partnership, and relationship building. The LT APS will assist with operationalizing racial equity including assisting with the implementation of CARB's Racial Equity Framework, Racial Equity Lens, and much more. The LT APS will also support efforts to update CARB's civil rights policy. Knowledge of tools and concepts, or experience with any of the following areas is needed: diversity, equity, inclusion, environmental justice, racial equity, and community outreach.

Working Conditions

 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

  • Position located in a high-rise building (Sacramento only)
  • Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods. 
  • Standard office environment (for example, artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.) 
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
