Research Associate: Biotransformation Group

The Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Department at Genentech is seeking a highly motivated individual to to join the Discovery Biotransformation group. The successful candidate will work closely with our scientists to support the biotransformation function working on small molecules and new modalities. Primary responsibilities include 

  • Profiling and identifying drug metabolites in in vitro biological matrices using LC-MS/MS
  • Designing and implementing appropriate assays and strategy to support the development of small molecules, peptides and other modalities
  • Ability to develop and perform LC-HRMS based analysis including sample preparation, as well as instrumental analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate and present biotransformation results to cross functional teams at Genentech..

Qualified candidates should possess a B.A./B.S., M.S., or PHD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences, pharmacology or related discipline with 0-5 years of research experience. Hands-on experience in Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS) with hands on experience and proven ability to develop and routinely employ bioanalytical methods for the analysis of small molecule metabolites. (peptides or other novel modalities is a plus). Experience with programming languages (R, python) and machine learning models is a plus.

Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to follow detailed verbal and written instruction. Able to apply analytical skills and judgment in assessing the quality of assay data and assay performance. Must be self-motivated, able to multitask, and meet timelines efficiently and productively. and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) proficiency is highly desired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present data in group meetings are preferred.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and diligent, be able to work independently and collaboratively, and have excellent organizational and reporting skills. S/he will work closely with our established Discovery Biotransformation group in the DMPK Department, performing routine and novel in vitro studies to support lead molecule optimization in drug discovery.
