Forecasting Analyst

Pay Grade:  M7

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists with development of short and long-range projections of customers, electricity usage and demand for both budget and resource planning purposes.  Assists with the development and maintains databases that support the various forecasts including historical demand and energy data, consumer characteristics and load shape models.  Acquires a thorough knowledge of Hoosier Energy and each Member System's load composition. Establishes a good working knowledge of forecasting systems and models.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the development of a Power Requirements Study (PRS) for each member and for Hoosier Energy.
  • Assists with developing monthly energy and demand forecasts for budget and planning purposes.
  • Monitors and maintains databases of prior forecasts, historical consumption and weather related variables.
  • Supports monthly weather/load relational analysis
  • Supports development of the retail customer end-use surveys and maintains database of prior surveys.
  • Develops and analyzes hourly load shapes of end-use consumers.
  • Responds to data requests and review documents from member systems, RUS, FERC, SUFG, IURC and the CEMR.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, Business or Engineering minimum.

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience in forecasting and statistical analysis minimum.
  • 2 years’ knowledge of electric utility business minimum.
  • Project and program management experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong statistical and analytical skills.
  • General understanding of electric utility forecasting, load shapes and market/consumer analysis.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and work as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to support multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines.
  • Ability to exercise flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment.
  • Advanced computer skills dealing with spreadsheets, databases, and programming.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Strong organizational skills.
